My Tiger Muay Thai Experience…..

Jann training with Kru Watt at Tiger Muay ThaiTMT:
Can be recommended strongly, you leave with greater confidence and in your life-forms. Full of energy back to life and dream of one day to come back. I’m already in the planning phase to come back next winter. Then in January and February 2011 I WILL return. Until then, I want everyone who is training there a pleasant stay. So for you who want to go to TMT, a good trip You’ll love the place so I do.

MMA:
I participated in two seminars with grappling in the MMA section. Because of my desire to take the tattoo I dared not to try MMA because I was afraid of skin infections. Next time I come back I will definitely try MMA training. Ray Elbe is American to the finger tips of both negative and positive, first impression was not all over the world. But, having talked a few times with him I realized he was a good man and I liked him. Andreas, which I have written about earlier is also said to be a very good MMA trainer. MMA section as really good, beautiful “cage”, etc.

Tiger Muay Thai Training Camp Area:
The area TMT have is perfect, half an hour to get to the Patong so that temptations do not get too close. I kept me away from all alcohol during my stay, fortunately. It is green, full of beautiful trees flowers animals and so on. The entrance is okey and there are many rings punching bags and other equipment everywhere. We were very impressed the first time we saw the place. It is also quite clean.

Training:
First I will describe the novice group training, it consists of fairly hard warming up, particularly on foot grate, ankles and legs. Everything they do on many of the exercises require you to stand on toes, knee kicks, mawashi geri (side kick) Mae Geri (teep, front push kick) sprinter punching and so on.. Then there are the obligatory ten push ups before every drink break. After warming up one of the coaches explains what to do on this day. So then it is right on combinations, kicks, clinch techniques with subsequent partner of the same size as you. Afterwards there is a range of things such as boxing, muay thai sparring, clinch sparring, etc. We are divided into three groups where some Sparr, the second group with Pad work and the third group are t punching bags and do all they can. Then there are the knee kick in a circle before we stretch out a bit and take the obligatory 300 sit ups and 100 push ups before training is over. Novice group is more like the advanced cardio workout here in Norway. To get up in the middle group, it is endurance they go after, not the level of your techniques or other point of view. Are you fat, you must expect to be a long time in the beginner group. I saw many well-trained but beginners go to the middle group that could not do real kicking or punches. So are you fat, poorly trained and so it’s actually better to be on the beginner group. However, I chose to drop the group sessions to take private lessons for the last three weeks.

Weight training.
Peter The Hulk is an incredible guy who takes good care of their customers. He watch all the time so that you exercise the right way. He put up a program to my back becouse I have bechterews disease. This program worked perfectly as heating before my private lessons. Weight room is small but good, and Peter makes you feel welcome. I did not like the music so I had my I-phone with music so I was in my own world

Private lessons.
I tried several trainers but ended up with Kru Oh, Chok chi (think it is written like that), Master Dang and Kru Wath. Kru Oh, and I found each other on a more personal level, he was also my tattooerer on the three tattoos I took when I was down there. We found the tone very quickly and became really good friends. Kru Oh also teach Krabi Krabong training and he has a way to teach Muay Thai as is technically far better than the other coaches. And in my opinion, so does the technique more than if one puts their weight and gravity. Kru Oh also took into consideration my kenpo background something that nobody else did. For example, it is common in karate, kung fu and other martial arts to drag the foot, but in Muay Thai they take small step on toes. It took time before I learned it because I’m so used to drag the last foot in all movements.

Chok Chi is very comfortable and quiet type, the old master of Muay Thai. He skipped little away if you do not show that you have the techniques. He puts more emphasis on the impact or power than other coaches. And he never sparr with you. Only pad works. A good coach to mix in with the others if you want to take it easy one day in between But not always, had a private session with him where I probably fired 400 side kicks, so if you have private session with him, he can really wear you out if he want to hehe

Jann with Kru Watt ro Muay Thai training sessionMaster Dang. Master fitness hehe very strict coach who is struggling you completely out. Dang appreciate combinations, like kind of kicking, punching or clinch. Dang is good to vary your training and challenge you in many areas. To impress him, you must have stamina like a pro basketball player to say the least. Besides training, he is a very kind man, had lunch with him once and he’s very down to earth, well most of the Muay Thai trainers are donw to earth kinda types.

Kru Wath. Master Sparrer. Giant boxer and clinch techniques and he likes to do sparring with you. He likes to spar more than pad works and a typical hour with him is, shadow boxing, or combinations of 3 x 5 minutes on heavy bag. So boxing on pads , Muay Thai Pad work in three rounds then 3 rounds of Muay Thai sparring. The hardest sessions were with him, and I also took my highlight video with him. Great personality and a very good sparring coach. I must also apologize for the elbow I hit him with under sparring. And he had match three days later hope he won have not seen the video of it yet, think he should go fight in Bangla stadium.
